IJaS PLAYER DEVELOPMENT CURRICULUM
150 LEARNING OBJECTIVES · 21 FOOTBALL SITUATIONS · AGES 5–15
Know what deserves your coaching attention at each stage—and why it matters for what comes next.
A CLEARER ANSWER TO ‘WHAT SHOULD I COACH?’
🎯 Focus on the capabilities that can make the biggest long-term difference.
🧭 Connect age-stage priorities to real football situations and specific learning objectives.
⚽ Give players direction without prescribing drills, scripts or one ‘correct’ solution.
WE CANNOT COACH EVERYTHING AT ONCE.
CHOOSE WHAT DESERVES YOUR ATTENTION.
Across a season—and across a player’s development—it is easy to spread our attention so thin that the most important capabilities never receive enough time.
This curriculum helps you make deliberate choices about what to develop now, why it matters later and how it connects to the reality of the game.
It provides direction without turning coaching into a top-down script.
WHAT’S INCLUDED?
A complete developmental map for ages 5–15, built to help you move from broad priorities to specific coaching attention.
You receive the curriculum workbook and a concise companion guide explaining the thinking behind it and how to use it.
-
Football One (ages 5–9), Football Two (9–12) and Football Three (12–15) describe how players’ relationships with the game can become more complex. The stages overlap intentionally. They are flexible developmental emphases—not rigid boxes children complete on a birthday.
-
Each situation is explored through Reality, Intention, Decision and Execution. The RIDEs organize development around problems players actually encounter in football—not isolated techniques removed from the game.
-
Move from a broad football situation to specific capabilities you can observe and emphasize. Objectives are linked across the curriculum so coaches can see both what matters now and what they prepare players to do later.
-
Football sits at the center, supported by physical, emotional and social priorities. The curriculum includes movement, confidence, resilience, joy, friendship, responsibility and accountability as part of player development.
WHY I CREATED THIS CURRICULUM
I’M DAVID GARCIA, A UEFA A LICENSED FOOTBALL COACH AND COACH EDUCATOR.
I have coached and developed coaches in Spain and the United States for more than 15 years.
This curriculum brings together what I believe players should develop from ages 5–15—and the football situations that give those capabilities meaning.
It is not a collection of drills or a script for coaches to follow. It is a considered map designed to help you make clearer decisions about where to place your attention.
